Brooks has over a decade of experience in education. In addition to college guidance counseling, he has taught middle and high school as a classroom social studies teacher, and spent several years as a learning specialist working with students experiencing learning disabilities in math.
He began his teaching career teaching humanities in independent schools, after receiving a B.A. in literature and M.A. in history. While teaching, he became fascinated by the science of learning, and in 2018, Brooks received a PhD in educational psychology, with a specialty in Cognition, Motivation, & Learning. During his doctoral studies, Brooks taught courses in developmental and educational psychology and conducted research on the cognitive processes involved in reading and learning using digital devices. He also spent time as a student reviewer for the Journal of Learning Disabilities. In addition to admissions counseling, Brooks works as an academic coach and career counselor for college students who struggle with executive functioning.
A talented and passionate educator, Brooks has found that college counseling gives him the chance to fully immerse himself in the kind of work that he truly loves: mentoring young people and helping them unlock their true potential. In addition to keeping up-to-date on current trends in college admissions, Brooks also actively follows the latest research developments in educational psychology. College counseling allows him to directly apply his knowledge of child development and learning science to help students reach their full potential—all while helping them craft high school experiences that will make them highly attractive candidates to top universities.
